David Holden won the Democratic nomination for Florida’s 19th Congressional District on Tuesday with 68 percent of the vote to Todd Truax’s 32 percent. Holden won all 148 precincts in a primary election that saw record turnout for Florida Democrats.

“I have talked with people in every single community in this district and they know – the people know – what they need. They need clean water and clean air. They need secure healthcare and retirement. They need housing they can rely on and jobs that pay a living wage. And they need leadership that respects the rule of law. And that’s what we’re going to bring to this community and that’s what we’re going to bring to Washington when we win this seat on November 6th!” Holden told his supporters at his watch party in Bonita Springs.

Why I’m with David: Campaign volunteers share their experiences
This week: Gerry Corriveau

Why are candidates who are running for office in the Republican Party embracing President Donald Trump in this state? He only won the presidential election against Hillary Clinton here in Florida by 1.2 percent, hardly a mandate.

I have been waiting a year and a half since I wrote a letter to U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney in March 2017, asking him to hold Trump accountable for his actions, to no avail. Republicans simply will not or cannot stand up to this human wrecking ball, as he has often been referenced.

That is just one of the many reasons why I will be voting for David Holden for Congress in November.
